Terms of use
Last updated 12 September 2026
Line At A Time ("the site", "we") is a free site for learning to code. By using it you agree to these terms. They are short on purpose; please read them.
Using the site
Everything on the site can be used without an account. An account is optional and only adds two things: your lesson progress is saved to your account instead of just this browser, and you can keep up to two sandbox projects per language.
The sandboxes run real programs. You may use them to learn, to experiment and to build things of your own. You must not use them to attack or overload the site or anyone else's computer, to mine cryptocurrency, to send spam, to try to escape the sandbox, or to run anything illegal. Runs are limited in time, memory and number, and we may block traffic that abuses them.
Accounts
You choose a username and a password. Keep the password to yourself; you are responsible for what is done with your account. Do not use your real name or anything else that identifies you as your username: the site is used by children, and a username is all anyone will ever see.
If you are under 13 (or under the age your country sets for online accounts), a parent or guardian should create the account for you and may look after it, including keeping the password safe.
There is no email address on an account, so a forgotten password cannot be reset. Keep it somewhere safe; if it is lost you would need a new account, and the old one can be deleted on request.
You can delete your account at any time from the account page. That removes everything the site holds about you, immediately and permanently. We may close accounts that break these terms.
Your code and content
Code you type or save on the site is yours. We do not claim any rights to it, we do not look at it, and we do not share it. Saved projects are stored only so you can open them again.
The lessons, explanations and site design are ours. You are welcome to learn from them and to link to them; please do not copy the courses wholesale onto another site.
No guarantees
The site is provided free, as it is, with no warranty of any kind. We try hard to keep it accurate, available and safe, but we cannot promise it will always be. We may change or remove features, or stop running the site, at any time; if we ever shut it down we will try to give notice so you can download your projects first.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from use of the site.
Changes and contact
If these terms change in a way that matters, the date at the top will change and, where we can, we will say so on the site. Questions go to contact@lineatatime.com. The site is run from Scotland and these terms are governed by Scots law.
See also the privacy policy, which explains exactly what the site stores.
